I was very disappointed with our stay at this harbour in Weesp. What should have been a pleasant visit turned into four days of rudeness, scowls, and a complete lack of respect from the owners.

On our arrival, I was the first person in the harbour office. Because of my accent, I was immediately accused of having a rental boat. When I tried to explain that we had actually visited this harbour 15–20 years ago, I was essentially called a liar. That set the tone for the rest of our stay.

The male owner in particular was incredibly rude. When we accidentally moored in front of the water filler, instead of politely telling us where to move, we were snapped at and told to move immediately with no instructions about where we should go. When I simply pointed to show my husband which way to turn, I was yelled at repeatedly: “Don’t point your finger!” It was humiliating.

The issue over our boat length was just as unnecessary. When asked, we answered that our boat was “about 11 meters.” The response was, “Looks bigger than 11 meters.” We then gave the exact length of 11.5m, but the tone made it sound as though we were being dishonest.

Throughout our stay, the female owner did nothing but scowl at us, making assumptions and comments that were both unfriendly and unfair. At one point, I returned a book I had borrowed, and even though they knew I only spoke English, the male owner kept speaking to me in Dutch. Later, when it became clear that my husband was Dutch, they suddenly refused to speak in English at all — as though to make things even more difficult for me.

On nights three and four, they also instructed another boat to moor directly against ours. This completely stole my view of the lake and blocked my ability to watch the young children from the sailing club take their little boats out — something I had been enjoying each day. It also meant losing all privacy, with strangers walking over our boat at all hours without anyone ever asking if we minded.

Between the unpleasant attitude of the owners, the constant accusations, and the complete disregard for comfort or courtesy, I would strongly advise others to think twice before staying here. What could have been a lovely visit turned into an upsetting and frustrating experience that I will not be repeating.

We stayed at this harbour in Weesp and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience.

From the moment we arrived, we were treated with hostility. The female owner accused us of lying about having been there before and spent the whole time scowling at us, making assumptions that our boat was hired. The male owner began with sarcastic politeness, which quickly escalated to outright rudeness — even yelling at my grandfather to “wait his turn” despite us being the only ones there at the time.

When asked the length of our boat, we answered “about 11 meters.” His response was, “looks bigger than 11 meters.” I then gave the exact measurement of 11.5m — hardly something visibly obvious — but the attitude remained dismissive and condescending.

The facilities left much to be desired. The showers felt intentionally uncomfortable, with water only lukewarm at best, while the wash basins were so hot you couldn’t even put your hands in them. There is just one overnight toilet for both men and women for the entire harbour, and the indoor toilets are locked after 9pm.

On nights 3 and 4, the owners instructed another boat to moor directly onto ours without ever asking our permission. This meant strangers were constantly stomping across our boat at all hours. To make matters worse, the boat in question could have easily rafted up with their own group instead which were moored behind us.

Finally, on the day we left, we needed to use the water filler — already overpriced — but the office, which is supposed to open at 9am, did not open until 10:20. We then had to go to a café to get change, as the machine only accepted €1 coins.

Between the rude treatment, unprofessional attitude, poor facilities, and unnecessary inconveniences, this harbour was one of the worst experiences we’ve had in our travels. I would not recommend it.

Fantastic people and marina. Clean and neat facilities, nice people and a lovely atmosphere. The restaurant is great too. Weesp is also a lovely town with many shops, parks and places to visit. Definitely a good spot to spend the night when yachting down the Vecht. We will definitely be back.

"Unwelcome at De Vecht"

Our grandparents were very much looking forward to returning to this harbour, having fond memories from a wonderful visit some 15 years ago. Sadly, under the new ownership, the experience could not have been more different.

From the very first interaction we felt challenged and doubted. When my grandparents mentioned they had stayed before, they were essentially called liars. When asked about our boat size, we answered 11 metres – only to be met with an abrupt “looks longer than that.” The boat is 11.5 metres, a negligible difference, yet we were made to feel as if we were lying twice within minutes of arriving.

This stood in stark contrast to the website and signage that proudly emphasise a “warm welcome.” The female owner’s demeanour was anything but welcoming, and her husband came across as arrogant and rude. When my grandfather tried to pay for the mooring, the owner held up his hand dismissively to his face while finishing pouring a beer for another customer. A polite word while doing so would have been far more professional. On discovering my grandfather was Dutch, he then refused to speak English, dismissively yelling “Dutch!” – behaviour more fitting of Basil Fawlty than a hospitable harbour master.

The facilities were similarly disappointing. The showers were barely lukewarm, despite the sinks running boiling hot, which felt like a deliberate strategy to ensure guests kept showers quick and uncomfortable. Only one toilet was accessible outside office hours, which were meant to be 9am to 9pm but on one morning the office didn’t open until 10:20am.

We also sensed prejudice towards “rental boats.” When asked if we owned or rented, the tone made it clear that guests without private ownership were considered inferior. To make matters worse, we had other boats rafted to ours without any consultation, forcing strangers to clamber across our deck at all hours – one even walking across the bow while my partner was changing, leading to an awkward scramble to shut the hatch.

In summary, it costs nothing to be welcoming, respectful and kind. Instead, we were met with rudeness, arrogance and a complete lack of hospitality. Our grandparents were so excited to revisit a place they had cherished, only to leave shocked and saddened by how unwelcome they were made to feel.

I write this in the hope the owners take it to heart. The harbour itself has potential, but the attitude towards guests desperately needs to change.

Sehr schöner Hafen für eine Übernachtung. Sehr nettes Personal. Nettes kleines Restaurant mit leckerem Essen. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und werden bei der nächsten Rundreise wieder halten.
