The historical and archeological society 'Sint Achten op Boeckel' (dated dialect for 'St. Agatha at Boekel') was founded in July 1982.

A cultural and historical collective, it strives to preserve and chronicle the histories of the municipal villages of Boekel and Venhorst (lit. 'fen-hurst') and publish same.

It does so through the society's members' individual and collective works as well as by facilitating lectures, exhibitions, guided tours and featuring publications in the association's magazine entitled 'De Wanmeule': a biannual publication distributed free-of-charge to the society's members and patrons.

The society chambers are located in the former 'Sint Janschool', the old primary education national-school: a listed building and a protected architectural-structure.

These chambers (known as a 'heemkamer' in Dutchlish) are open Tuesday mornings and Friday evenings at the times displayed in the adjoining photograph.

Members conduct their research there and the doors are open to welcome guests and visitors to the museum housed in the same buildings and indeed to enjoy a cup`a coffee.

The chambers are located at number 22 St. John's Square and this address also houses the aforementioned Boekel Museum, which is dedicated to capturing and displaying life in the village environs down through the ages.
Among other things, the museum offers excellent and unique insights into the 'colonisation' of the vast peat boglands once located in the municipality throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
